What is Yoga?
Yoga is a combination of breathing exercises, physical postures, and meditation. It has been practiced for over 5,000 years. Yoga is believed to calm the nervous system and balance the endocrine system. The word “Yoga” means union in Sanskrit. Many of the physical postures, or asanas, involve stretching and breathing in rhythm to the movement. These exercises are designed to create a more balanced body and mind. It can be practiced by most everyone and is one of the oldest forms of exercise and ways of connecting body and mind.
